What is a fractal?

A fractal is an irregular pattern that is repeated in different scales (small, large etc). For example, the motif made of small hexagons within a larger hexagon (left diagram) is repeated  in the right diagram to form the same shaped motif in a larger scale. Click on the Hexagon Grid tab to see the beginnings of a quilt made with the motif.
